Nuneaton’s active local MP Marcus Jones spoke during Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday (Wednesday 8 June) and asked the PM for assurances that the Government will support town centres.
In Parliament, Marcus is Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Town Centres and takes a keen interest in supporting small businesses. He is also an Ambassador for the ‘Keep Trade Local’ campaign organised by the Federation of Small Businesses.
Marcus, who has taken the Prime Minister, David Cameron, around Nuneaton town centre on numerous occasions, commented: “I was pleased to hear that the Prime Minister enjoyed visiting Nuneaton, as he has done a number of times now. Our town centre is doing well, particularly given the very difficult economic times we are in. We have a comparatively low level of vacant premises, but our town centres are facing a vital and difficult challenge from out-of-town stores and the internet.
“I am a keen supporter of town centres and in my role as Chairman of the APPG I hope to do my bit to support not only Nuneaton town centre but town centres throughout the country.”
