Marcus Jones, the MP for Nuneaton, has welcomed the announcement by the Prime Minister and Chancellor that the bid by MIRA Technology Park to be an Enterprise Zone has been successful.
The Zone’s will benefit from tax breaks and high speed internet links and will become ‘trailblazers’ for prosperity throughout the country, according to Prime Minister, David Cameron. Across the UK they will create over 30,000 new jobs by 2015. It is estimated that 800 new jobs will be created through the MIRA Enterprise Zone by 2015.
The Chancellor, George Osborne has said that Enterprise Zones will benefit from over £150 million in tax breaks over four years, new superfast broadband and the potential to use enhanced capital allowances.
Commenting on the announcement, Marcus said: “This announcement is fantastic news and just the sort of positive stuff we need for Nuneaton – this technology park will create a substantial number of high tech highly skilled jobs right on our doorstep, and we must now do all we can locally to make sure that our people have access to the training and skills that employers on this site will require.
"There is a serious need to rebalance our economy in the country and having an Enterprise Zone here is a sign that locally we are leading the way to help create new jobs. In supporting this project I was assured that MIRA were looking to other areas and countries to bring new firms to our area which will be so positive for us here in Nuneaton.
“I know a lot of hard work has gone into the bid and I would like to congratulate all those involved and wish the Enterprise Zone every success.”
