Local MP Marcus Jones has welcomed the results achieved by pupils in Nuneaton who took their A-Levels and GCSEs this year.
King Edward VI College performed well, with a growing number of students achieving the grades they need. Top marks were spread across a range of subjects, with 25 out of 39 subject areas seeing A-Level pass rates of 100%.
With GCSE results, a number of local schools excelled. Higham Lane achieved its best ever set of results, with 96% of students earning an A* to C grade, a staggering 24% increase on the results it achieved in 2006. At the George Eliot, 93% of students gained 5 or more A* to C grades, an 8% increase on last year’s performance. Hartshill School celebrated its best results for the third consecutive year, with 91% of pupils gaining an A* to C grade whilst at the Nuneaton Academy, this year’s GCSE results show the number of students achieving 5+ A* to C grades increased 34% to 77% compared to 2009/10, and the percentage of students achieving 5 A* to C including English and Maths rose by 11% to 41%.
Commenting on the results for the town, Marcus said: “I am extremely proud of all those young people who have achieved an excellent set of exam results. In recent months there has been a lot of negative publicity about young people, particularly in the aftermath of the civil disorder the country experienced, but results like this go to show how hard-working and talented our youngsters are.
“Some people fail to realise the importance of their exams until it is too late so I was particularly pleased to learn of the increase in success rates achieved by this year’s pupils. I wish them all every success for the future.
“Of course, good exam results are not achieved without quality teachers who work incredibly hard to ensure the best possible outcomes for their pupils, and I thank them for what they do for our local youngsters.
“I am particularly pleased to see that in areas of the town where not so long ago we had several schools failing badly we are now seeing great improvements, the results at The George Eliot School and The Nuneaton Academy demonstrate this, although we must not be complacent and must strive to make all of our schools amongst the best in the county.”
