Marcus Jones has welcomed the news that 326,500 apprenticeships have been started across the country over the past year, with 560 people taking up apprenticeships in Nuneaton through local businesses. This welcome news came from a parliamentary question put to the Business Secretary by Marcus.
According to a survey carried out by the National Apprenticeship Service, companies with apprentices benefit significantly over those who do not. Of the employers surveyed, 82% agreed that Apprenticeships give them a good return on investment, 81% agreed that Apprenticeships supply their businesses with the practical skills and qualifications that they need for the future, 77% agreed that Apprenticeships are a cost effective recruitment solution and 90% would recommend Apprenticeships to other companies. It’s not just the business benefits that employers are reporting, with 83% agreeing that employing apprentices leads to a better work environment.
Commenting on the number of apprenticeships available, Marcus said: “I am delighted to see so many people here in Nuneaton taking up the apprenticeship opportunities being offered by Government and employers, this scheme will without doubt give people the opportunity to gain real skills, experience and build proper careers.
“In Nuneaton we have many people, particularly youngsters with great potential just waiting to be unlocked, and the apprenticeship route will really benefit those youngsters who aren’t always engaged by pure academic study.
“For employers there is also a real opportunity to develop the high quality skilled employees for the future through this scheme.”
