Nuneaton’s MP Marcus Jones has expressed his concerns over plans to centralise courts in Warwickshire and the West Midlands.
Under proposals put forward by the Ministry of Justice a major overhaul and reconfiguration of courts across the region could see criminal cases move from Nuneaton and be replaced by other court sittings specialising in such things as Television License prosecutions.
Nuneaton’s MP has concerns over the plans which could possibly see criminal cases administered from Coventry and Leamington.
Marcus has discussed the proposals with Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Ball and is now seeking meetings with local magistrates and Solicitors to hear their thoughts on the proposals.
Marcus has also registered his initial concerns with Justice Minister Damian Green.
Nuneaton’s voice in Parliament said, “I am extremely concerned that some people charged with criminal offences may not be easily able to access a court outside the area, and I am therefore seeking the valued opinion of Magistrates who sit on the bench in Nuneaton and from local Solicitors.
"I will certainly be feeding those local views back to the Ministry of Justice.”
