Marcus Jones, the MP for Nuneaton, has welcomed the latest local unemployment figures which show a fall of 20% in the town in the last 12 months. There are now 824 fewer people unemployed today than there were in May 2010 when Labour were in Government.
In Nuneaton, since May 2010, unemployment in the town has fallen by 32%, with a 20% reduction in the past 12 months. Youth unemployment has also fallen by 31% in the last year.
Marcus has again acknowledged that there is no room for complacency and said that apprenticeship initiatives and an improving economy had really helped to drive down unemployment, particularly for younger people.
Marcus has also urged local people looking for work to attend the latest Jobs Fair that he and Dan Byles MP have organised for the 26th June at Bedworth Civic Hall.
Commenting on the figures, Marcus said: “These latest figures are very positive which have shown further reductions in unemployment, yet I know there is no room for complacency. The economy is picking up and there is a long way to go yet, but more people in work means more people who have security and are able to provide for their family.
“I know there is still much more to do and that too many people remain unemployed, but there is a growing confidence with the economy and I am determined locally to do all I can to encourage people into employment, and to support the growth of new and existing businesses in Nuneaton and throughout my constituency.
“I urge anyone looking for work to come along to the Jobs Fair on the 26th June.”
