Nuneaton’s MP Marcus Jones completed the Rotary Walk on Sunday 29 April to raise funds for the Mary Ann Evans Hospice, based at the George Eliot Hospital.
Braving the heavy downpour, which lasted all day, the MP, completed the walk, thought to be in excess of 21 miles, in 7 hours and 30 minutes.
With support from local people & businesses, Marcus is on track to raise over £800 for the Hospice.
Ladbrokes also donated to the cause by giving Marcus a £50 charity bet at odds of 3/1 to complete the walk in less than 7 hours. Although that was not quite achieved, Ladbrokes have honoured their offer, due to the course being in excess of 21 miles, adding £200 to the fundraising total.
Commenting on the event Marcus said: “Taking part in the event was a huge honour and the cause is one very close to my heart. Given the weather, it was a tough day and I was really grateful to several experienced walkers who helped me keep going and reach the finish. I would like to thank all of those who supported me with sponsorship, it’s excellent to have received so much support from local people and businesses and I’m very grateful for it.”
