Marcus Jones, the MP for Nuneaton, has raised almost £900 for the Mary Ann Evans Hospice after completing the Rotary Walk on Sunday 29 April.
Braving the heavy downpour, which lasted all day, the MP completed the walk thought to be in excess of 21 miles, in 7 hours and 30 minutes. Ladbrokes had given Marcus odds of 3/1 to complete the walk in less than 7 hours on the basis of 21 miles.
Although it took almost 7 hours and 30 minutes to complete the walk, Ladbrokes honoured their generous offer due to the course exceeding 21 miles. The cheque was handed over to Marcus on Tuesday 8 May.
Commenting on his fundraising effort, Marcus said: “Taking part in the event was a huge honour and the cause is one very close to my heart. Given the weather, it was a tough day and I was really grateful to several experienced walkers who helped me keep going and reach the finish.
“I would like to thank Ladbrokes for their generosity to honour their offer even though it took slightly longer than the 7 seven hour challenge. It’s excellent to have received so much support from local people and businesses and I’m very grateful for it. All money raised is going to an excellent cause at the Mary Ann Evans Hospice.”
