Nuneaton’s MP Marcus Jones has written to the National Lottery to seek assurances over the distribution of its funding, following recent research that shows that since the Lottery started in 1994 Nuneaton has not received its fair share of Lottery funding.
As of July 2012, Nuneaton received £11,850,726 from the Lottery whilst other constituencies received upwards of £30m. The town’s MP has now written to National Lottery chiefs to seek assurances about the allocation of its funding, and guidance as to how local community groups and associations can be better supported to submit successful bids for funding.
Commenting, Marcus said: “Firstly I should like to thank the Lottery for the almost £12m Nuneaton has received in funding. That money has been well spent in the town and I know has been very welcome by local people.
The recent £1 million awards for the Hill Top and Ansley and Arley communities have also been very welcome; however we need to know why Nuneaton has fared badly compared to many other areas in securing Lottery funding.
“I have written to the National Lottery to both seek assurances about the allocation of its funding and perhaps more importantly for guidance as to how Nuneaton can improve its success rates when it comes to securing Lottery funding, which is vital to many local schemes.
“I want to see Nuneaton benefit more from Lottery money and I think we can do more to ensure that by all parties working constructively together, a process that I am keen to support.”
