MANOR Park RFC have been heralded an “excellent club” after a special visit by Nuneaton’s member of parliament.
Marcus Jones watched from the side lines at the Griff and Coton on Saturday as Manor ran home eight tries to stay second in Midlands 4 West South.
“It was an excellent game which left me with the impression of what an excellent club and spirit Manor Park have,” he said.
The Conservative politician played a role in helping to secure the club a secondary pitch after their previous pitch at KEGS was converted into a football pitch last summer.
Park eventually struck a deal with Nuneaton Academy, but the support shown by the town’s MP was warmly welcomed.
He added: “The match was fantastic, really good flowing, entertaining rugby, I was also interested to learn Manor Park often puts out three teams, only the week before they had 65 players all participating.
“What interests me as well is they cater for all abilities, from soldiers from Bramcote Barracks, to beginners who “fancied a run out," that’s really good to hear, although I had to turn down their offer of a game for the third team!”
First team captain Matthew Marston presented the guest of honour with a club tie before the match.
Club press officer/fixture secretary Bobby Bridge, said: “To have Marcus take such a keen interest is fantastic, it was great to have him along.
“The club maybe lacking in facilities but the sheer volume of players wanting to pull on a Manor Park jersey is stronger than it has been for some time, some weeks we have enough to nearly fill four teams.
“His visit coincided with our biggest win of the season, so he is welcome to come along any time if he brings us that kind of luck!”
