Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones recently watched students take part in a Football Association Tesco Skills session at Queen’s Church of England Academy in Nuneaton. Making the most of the summer weather, the year five students practised their football skills under the expert guidance of FA Tesco Skills coaches Jo Potter and Craig Dean.
FA Tesco Skills, which sees FA coaches running football sessions for 5 to 11 year olds, has been running since 2007 and in that time has delivered more than 5 million skills places to children across England.
Commenting Marcus said, "I was delighted to go and see the FA deliver a local training session at Queens C of E Academy. It was obvious that the children were really enjoying being coached by qualified FA staff, and I was pleased to see the school have such a positive attitude towards children taking part in sporting activities”
The scheme is funded by The FA, Tesco and Sport England and employs 158 coaches to help children of all abilities get active, learn new skills, build self-confidence and enjoy football. Coaching sessions are delivered both in primary schools alongside teachers and outside of school at FA Tesco Skills centres.
The programme is free to primary schools and has been delivered in more than 7,500 schools, supporting more than 21,500 teachers.
