Marcus Jones, who is seeking re-election to Parliament in next month’s General Election, has pledged his support to Grand Central’s proposals to introduce regular train services between Blackpool and London, which will benefit Nuneaton.
Grand Central, part of the Arriva Group, will invest in new trains, more travelling options for rail users, create new jobs and deliver significant economic benefits.
The open access rail operator is seeking approval from the Office of Rail Regulation and will shortly consult the rail industry on its plans. Open Access train services operate outside the franchise system.
Commenting on the proposals, Marcus said: “Many people will know that during my time as the Member of Parliament for Nuneaton, I campaigned hard to improve rail services, particularly fast off-peak services. This bid will provide an opportunity for Nuneaton people to benefit from better fast off-peak services which were removed by the last Labour Government.
“If I am returned to Parliament in May, I will be giving these proposals my full support as they will provide a tangible benefit for local people here in Nuneaton.”
