Marcus Jones, the MP for Nuneaton, has welcomed the latest unemployment figures which have fallen again.
In Nuneaton, unemployment is down 1% from 5.9%-4.9% since the General Election. This totals 2,183 unemployed claimants in the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics. The national unemployment average is 8%.
Nuneaton’s figures in June 2010 were the 207th highest in the country, but in June 2012 the town was placed as the 316th highest out of the 650 UK constituencies, an improvement of 109 places.
Despite this positive news Marcus knows that there is no room for complacency and is keen to build upon initiatives like the recent Jobs Fair run by the local MPs, and the Governments Work Programme and Apprenticeship initiatives which are starting to have a positive effect.
Commenting on the figures, Marcus said: “I’m extremely encouraged by the latest figures which have shown a third reduction in unemployment in as many months yet I know there is no room for complacency.
“Working with my colleague Dan Byles MP, we’ve organised a local Jobs Fair and we are planning others in the near future. The Government’s support for apprenticeship schemes is also proving to be very valuable and I know that the Work Programme is helping people back into employment. Getting people into work is my number one priority, and I will continue to be as supportive as I can in achieving that for local people.”
