A campaign petition led by Marcus Jones, who is seeking re-election to Parliament, launched to encourage Marks and Spencer to return to Nuneaton after a four year absence has received more than 2,000 signatures.
Marcus has now received a response from M&S management confirming their enthusiasm to return to Nuneaton as soon as the right site becomes available for a new store. The response confirms that the company would like to open a Simply Food store but have specific requirements including its own car parking provision.
After fighting hard to persuade M&S to originally stay in Nuneaton during the summer of 2010, Marcus decided to again make contact with the retailer to see whether or not their return was a serious prospect.
After contacting many constituents, Marcus decided to launch a petition urging Marks and Spencer to return and encouraging both the Borough and County Councils to do everything in their power to facilitate the return of this much loved brand.
Commenting, Marcus said: “The response from M&S was positive but it shows that everybody involved now needs to work together, including our Councillors, property owners and property agents to put together the right package to get M&S back to our town as soon as possible.
“I would like to thank everybody who signed the petition, which has clearly shown to M&S the demand that there is in our area for a new store.”
