Local MP Marcus Jones has pledged his support for school girl Millie Hainge as she heads to Parliament on Tuesday 11 March.
Millie is heading to Westminster to take part in an event organised by diabetes charity, JDRF who are organising the event to raise awareness of this life threatening disease.
Eleven year old Millie was diagnosed with type 1diabetes two years ago and lives with a regime of insulin injections and finger pricking to test her blood glucose levels.
MP Marcus Jones said “I am delighted that Millie has invited me to support her in this endeavour. The instances of Type 1 diabetes are on the increase and no one knows what causes this terrible disease and there isn’t any cure. When she told me that in just two years she has had stick a needle into her finger 6,568 times to test her blood glucose and endure 3,284 insulin injections it made me want to help.”
Millie Hainge said “Mr Jones is fantastic, I am nervous about visiting Parliament but having an MP there that I know and actually understands and supports this condition will make a huge difference.”
This isn’t the first time the MP has supported Millie, he took part in PIING, a campaign to get local school children to ping an elastic band on their wrist every time they ate, to help them understand how many times Millie has to inject insulin.
