Local MP Marcus Jones has requested an urgent meeting with local health bosses to discuss the future of the Camp Hill Walk-In Centre following last week’s press reports that it may be under threat of closure.
Marcus is well aware how important the Walk-In Centre has been, not just to people in Camp Hill but across the area. The MP is to call upon health bosses to confirm the future of the Walk-In Centre, and to explain in more detail the process that they are following and reassure the public about how this service will be provided.
The local MP is pleased that the future of a GP service at Camp Hill has been secured but firmly believes in the value of the Walk-In Centre for many local people. He is also concerned to make sure that any decision is based on clinical need, not financial grounds, given that the Government is now narrowing the gap between health funding in the north and south of Warwickshire. And given that the Government has pledged a further £1bn to support the high demand for GP services. This comes on top of the Government’s commitment to pledge an additional £2bn each year to frontline NHS services.
Commenting, Marcus said: “I’m very concerned that we retain a Walk-In Centre to support people who need immediate access to a GP. I intend to meet with the Chief Executive of the North Warwickshire Commissioning Group as soon as possible and urge them to clarify their plans to the public as a matter of urgency.
“We very recently seen a far better health funding deal for our area which has only been possible because of the Conservatives strong management of the economy over the last five years. I will keep pressing for an even better health funding deal for local people but the latest settlement will see us go some way to narrowing the health funding gap between us and south Warwickshire, which we were left with by the previous Labour Government.”
