Nuneaton’s MP Marcus Jones has met with Network Rail and London Midland officials to discuss improving access to Nuneaton railway station from Weddington Terrace.
The meeting follows preliminary discussions which took place at a rail users drop-in session organised by the town’s Member of Parliament and attended by Network Rail, London Midland and Virgin Trains, together with rail users in Nuneaton.
Now the MP has met officials at the station to conduct a meeting on site, showing Network Rail and London Midland, the operator of the station, how the station might be improved. Network Rail have committed to conducting a pre-feasibility study into the potential scheme, which would improve access for rail customers from Weddington Terrace, close to KFC.
The pre-feasibility study would also feed into work that Network Rail are undertaking to assess the accessibility of Nuneaton Station.
Commenting on the meeting, Marcus said: “This meeting represents progress in a potential scheme to have a new access into the station from Weddington Terrace, which I know would make life easier for many commuters and would help Nuneaton station to develop. We know that rail users would welcome this scheme, but much work needs to be done. I am pleased that Network Rail have committed to conducting a pre-feasibility study, and, whilst these things take time, I am looking forward to learning of their conclusions.”
The pre-feasibility study is due to take place in July.
