Leading politicians, Marcus Jones and Dan Byles, have revealed their dismay with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s Labour leaders at further delays to the Borough Plan, after nearly 4 years of failure to introduce a development plan for the area.
The MPs, who have been critical of the approach and process adopted by the Labour administration at the town hall, believe that once again the process of forming a Borough Plan is being dragged out to avoid the controlling Labour group revealing their hand before this May’s local elections.
The MPs believe that the whole process has been driven by a completely political approach which is still going on whilst developers are circling over pieces of land across the area. They also hold concerns that the inertia at the Borough Council will inevitably lead to new developments being constructed without a holistic solution for infrastructure to deal with the additional houses.
Commenting on the delay, Nuneaton’s MP, Marcus Jones said: “The Labour-led Borough Council has had years in which to consult with the public and to formulate a decent Borough Plan which would serve to better protect our town from unrealistic and inappropriate development.
“Instead of proper leadership from the Council, we have had dithering. Instead of decisiveness, we have had delays. There is no vision from the Council’s leadership and it is having an adverse affect on our area. It is time for the Leader of the Borough Council to get a grip on this issue instead of delaying and waiting for the local elections to be dealt with first.
“Local people deserve better than that, and a Borough Plan is long overdue.”
Adding, the MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, Dan Byles, said: "Every day that goes by without a plan in place leaves us at risk from developers. Once again it is apparent that the councillors running Nuneaton and Bedworth have completely lost control of local planning. This indecision, coupled with Labour's plans to build an additional one million houses in five years if they form the next Government, means that nowhere in Nuneaton or Bedworth is safe. It's not good enough. Bedworth deserves better."
