Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has this week continued his campaign for safety measures to be introduced on the A5 at the Woodford Lane junction. Multiple accidents and a recent death have prompted the local MP to call for measures to be put in place to prevent further loss of life at the treacherous junction.
Marcus raised the issue most recently in Parliament last Thursday, asking the Minister, Stephen Hammond, to look seriously at trying to find a solution to make at the junction to make it safer. The local MP has also met recently with the Minister to discuss his concerns in detail.
As a result of Marcus’ question, the Minister confirmed in his answer his commitment to the problem and has asked the Highways Agency to conduct a review of the junction’s safety record over the past few years and to keep an eye on it over the next six months.
In previous efforts, Marcus secured the support of previous Minister Mike Penning, who agreed to engage Department for Transport officials to look at ways in which safety measures could be used to avert the current danger that the Woodford Lane junction poses.
Speaking about the issue, Marcus said: “The meeting was very positive and it was reassuring to know that Stephen was aware of the dangers present at this junction. I know that this junction continues to be treacherous and I will keep pursuing this through further questioning and lobbying of the Minister over the coming months.”
