Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has written to the Chief Executive of NHS Warwickshire after learning that the majority of services provided by Warwickshire Community Health are to be transferred to South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust.
A handful of services provided in the north of the country are to be transferred to George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, including smoking cessation services, TB nursing and special care dentistry.
Marcus Jones MP has raised concerns about the significant health inequalities between the north and south of the county, as well as how the changes to Warwickshire Community Health impacts on resources. The changes, however, do not affect the services offered by NHS Warwickshire and as such it is not required to consult the public.
Commenting on the recommendations, Marcus said: “My main concern is that when commissioning is decided by a provider from South Warwickshire services in the north of the country could be detrimentally affected. There are stark health inequalities already in Warwickshire and my fear is that this change might exacerbate the problem.
“I have written to NHS Warwickshire with a number of questions to seek assurances about this change. I am naturally disappointed that no formal public consultation will be taking place given the potential impact on health inequalities that already exist.”
