Marcus Jones, Nuneaton’s Member of Parliament, has spoken of his shock at the decision of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council which could force the closure of a popular riding school.
Nuneaton and North Warwickshire Equestrian Centre is involved with a legal battle with the Borough Council following the Council’s decision not to renew the Centre’s lease for its premises in Galley Common. The Centre is popularly known as tyhe Riding School for the Disabled.
Now the town’s MP has revealed his outrage and shock at the move, which he dubbed ‘perverse’.
Commenting on the situation, Marcus said: “I was shocked when I heard that the Borough Council were making a legal challenge to the riding school over their lease. I understand that this is all about a legal technicality and it seems perverse that the Council are spending taxpayers money on a Barrister to try and force legal action that will almost certainly close a riding facility that has given invaluable support to disabled youngsters for well over 30 years.
“I am sure that the people of Galley Common and the wider Nuneaton area who fought to save the riding school a few years ago, and raised thousands of pounds to keep it going, will be outraged by the actions of the Council.
“If the Council are unhappy with some aspect of the riding school or if they want the land for another purpose they should be transparent and open about it, and stop wasting council tax payers money on big legal bills, particularly at a time when the Council Leader keeps telling us how hard up the Council is.”
Marcus has pledged to continue to oppose the potential closure and is urging people to contact him to share their views with him. You can contact your MP in writing at 13-17 Hollybush House, Bond Gate, Nuneaton, CV11 4AR or via email at [email protected].
