Local MPs Marcus Jones and Dan Byles have voiced their support for workers affected by the Daw Mill fire and have vowed to do all they can to help.

Marcus Jones, who represents Nuneaton in Parliament, raised a ‘Point of Order’ during a recent parliamentary debate to express his support for colliery workers and their families.

The MPs also met with Energy Minister John Hayes to discuss the ongoing situation at Daw Mill. They are also due to meet with Union bosses later today.

Commenting, Marcus said: “Local people will be saddened to hear of the serious underground fire at Daw Mill colliery. Thankfully, there have been no deaths or serious injuries, but the fire, which is still blazing, is causing a great deal of uncertainty and worry to more than 600 people who work at the colliery.

“I offer my support to the workers at Daw Mill and their families during this extremely difficult time and I will continue to do what I can.”

Adding, Dan Byles, who represents North Warwickshire & Bedworth, said: “"Both Marcus and I are working closely with UK Coal and the Department for Energy & Climate Change as this very worrying situation develops, and are shortly to meet with representatives of the workforce. Right now everybody's priority is to ensure the wellbeing of the miners and their families, all of whom are currently facing an uncertain future. Everything else can come later."
