New powers to tackle littering welcomed Marcus Jones MP has welcomed the new powers given to local authorities to tackle the problem of littering. Marcus said: “Litter affects us all, it blights our local environment in Nuneaton and costs well over £1 million a year to clean-up. That is why, the new Litter Strategy sets out plans to help to tackle this anti-social behaviour, making Nuneaton a more attractive area and helping our local economy to prosper and grow.” “I am pleased that, having worked on this the first national Litter Strategy, litter louts could now be hit with £150 fines and those caught fly-tipping can be made to help clear up the mess they created.” “The local Council has a role to play in providing more litter bins and siting them across the area so that it is easier for people to get rid of rubbish properly. We want to be the first generation to leave our environment in a better state than we found it, and tackling litter is an important part of my drive to make Nuneaton a better place to live and visit.”
