Nuneaton’s Member of Parliament, Marcus Jones, has said he hopes that World War II veterans in the town will take advantage of funding provided through ‘Return Heroes 2’ to visit the places where they served so bravely 70 years ago.
Grants are available from between £165 to £8,140 towards travel and accommodation for them or their widows, their spouse or carers. The town’s MP hopes that some will take up the opportunity.
Commenting on the funding, Marcus said: “It is 70 years since the Normandy Landings, which saved Europe from tyranny. We owe our freedom today to the selfless courage of those who fought in the Second World War. I am pleased to see that funding has been made available to them to enable those who want to, to revisit the places where they fought all those years ago.
“Return Heroes 2 does fantastic work, and over £28 million has been given to more than 57,000 veterans for journeys in the UK, to Europe, or beyond.
“I would encourage those who served to get in touch with Heroes Return to find out more.”
