Marcus Jones, the MP for Nuneaton, is supporting a report from leading research charity, Breast Cancer Campaign, which calls for greater efforts to ensure high standards of care are experienced by all breast cancer patients.

According to the report, Finding the cures, improving the care, launched today, attempts to improve the standard of care experienced by thousands of breast cancer patients are in danger of not being delivered because of a lack of monitoring and reporting.

The report showed that the Breast cancer quality standard (BCQS), published by NICE in 2011 and which outlines what high-quality care from the NHS should look like for all women with breast cancer, is not being used to its full potential because currently there is no monitoring or reporting of performance against the standard.

The charity has set out 16 recommendations in the report aimed at improving the quality of care and support for all women living with breast cancer.

Commenting, Marcus said: “With 50,000 people diagnosed every year, breast cancer is the UK’s most common cancer. I want to see the Breast cancer quality standard being adhered to in Nuneaton to ensure high-quality care is being delivered for my constituents and their families.”

Breast Cancer Campaign is tackling the issue of care faced by patients as outlined in its Help us find the cures action plan in three areas; improving treatment, tackling secondary breast cancer and living with and beyond breast cancer.
