Marcus Jones, Nuneaton’s Member of Parliament, has given a resounding thumbs down to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s proposed Borough Plan, which he described as ‘flawed'.
The MP also criticised the public consultation, saying there was a ‘lack of public knowledge’ over both the process and the proposals. He also believes that many local people wanting to respond to the consultation have been confused by the online consultation response forms. The timing of the consultation was also criticised, during what is the summer holiday period.
Marcus’ response to the consultation has addressed a number of concerns, including highways infrastructure, flooding, draining and sewerage, and education provision.
Commenting on this response, Marcus said: “I have had a significant amount of contact from local people in Arbury, Attleborough, St Nicolas and Weddington who are dismayed at the prospect of the Labour controlled Borough Council just driving through their preferred options without any acknowledgement of the detrimental impact their policy will have on the settled community.
“I firmly believe that the proposed plan is flawed and needs to be looked at again and quickly. It must take into account evidence and most importantly the views of local people, which are at the moment being completely ignored.
“The proposal being put forward seems to me to be incoherent and I will be watching with interest to see what the independent Planning Inspector makes of it. I hope the independent inspection shows this Plan up for what it is.”
“The consultation ends on Friday 30 August and I would urge all local people to look at what is being proposed and respond to the Council either online or in writing.”
