Marcus Jones, MP for Nuneaton, has met Malcolm Brown the Chief Executive Officer of Angel Trains, one of Britain’s leading train leasing companies, to discuss the company’s plans for refurbishing and enhancing the trains serving Nuneaton.
Marcus said: “I am delighted to learn that Angel Trains have a really ambitious programme of refurbishments and enhancements to the rolling stock serving Nuneaton on the Virgin West Coast services.
“Angel carry out the refurbishment works in the UK and are committed to ensuring that the trains that serve Nuneaton are of the highest quality.”
Marcus also welcomed the news that the new Midlands rail franchise, which will run from December until March 2026, will also see a huge £1 billion investment in new carriages, extra capacity and additional benefits such as improved access for disabled passengers, smart ticketing, live passenger information and free WiFi from the end on 2019.
“I was also able to ask Mr Brown about the configuration of trains to create a better balance between standard and first-class carriages so that all of those using the service could get a seat – one of the frequent complaints I hear is that too often the standard class carriages are overfull and passengers have to stand whilst seats are vacant in first-class.
“It is good to see substantial investment being made to the rail network and improvements being made that will benefit the people of Nuneaton but there is more to do and I will continue to campaign for more fast off-peak services to Nuneaton.”
