Nuneaton’s voice in Parliament Marcus Jones MP was recently joined in Nuneaton by Transport Minister, Robert Goodwill who was on hand to listen to the Nuneaton MPs vision for a new pedestrian access into Nuneaton Railway Station.
With now well over one million people a year using Nuneaton Station, the local MP has received a growing number of representations from constituents asking about the creation of a second access into Nuneaton Station from Weddington Terrace.
The MP who recently received confirmation from Network Rail, which they are due to visit the station to assess how feasible it would be to create a new pedestrian access was keen to discuss the idea with the Transport Minister.
Marcus firmly believes that more needs to be done to make it easier for people to use the station, and encourage more people to walk and cycle to the station, which is now busier than ever.
The leading local MP said, “It was great to get Robert to visit Nuneaton, it’s important with any project of this nature to secure support from Ministers, just like Nuneaton to Coventry (NUCKLE) project, where it was necessary to get buy-in from Ministers to secure that project.
"I will continue to push the case for an alternative station access to be explored, and will be speaking to both Network Rail and Ministers, going forward, to push for this important project, which could really benefit local rail passengers."
Transport Minister Robert Goodwill said, “Rail has seen huge growth in this country over the past 20 years. That’s why we’re investing £34 billion as part of our long-term economic plan. With so many people now using Nuneaton station it is important that it has the access that passengers would expect. Marcus has a great record of successfully campaigning for Nuneaton and he certainly made a strong case once again.”
