Nuneaton’s MP Marcus Jones has welcomed the announcement from Government that the A5/Longshoot junction is to be upgraded as part of a £4.7m improvement scheme.
Marcus has been campaigning for improvements to The Long Shoot/A5 junction for some time and only last month Marcus with the Roads Minister, Stephen Hammond, on site to show him the problems being experienced at the junction.
The plans to improve the Long Shoot junction will be carried out with works to improve the Dodwells roundabout. The work is expected to be completed in 2014.
The work will reduce delays by increasing capacity and managing traffic more effectively at the junction. The scheme will also improves the facilities for pedestrians and new signage and carriageway markings will also help motorists with navigating the junctions.
Marcus now intends to meet again with the Transport Minister to discuss the project and reiterate the safety concerns raised by local people in regard to the current lay out of the A5/Long shoot junction.
Commenting, Marcus said: “This is fantastic news I have received many complaints about this junction on the A5.
"It is very positive that the Government is committed to reducing congestion and improving road safety, and given that the Minister has seen for himself the problems at this particular junction, I am delighted that positive action is being taken.
“I hope the works will reduce delays by increasing capacity, manage traffic more effectively and help motorists navigate the junction in a safer way.”
