Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has met with the Under-Secretary of State for Transport, Stephen Hammond, to raise the issue of the dangerous Woodford Lane junction on the A5.
The meeting follows the recent Government re-shuffle where Mr Hammond was appointed as the Minister responsible for roads and road safety.
The local MP has been lobbying the Government about the danger of the Woodford Lane accident black spot for some months. The junction claimed the life of young moped rider Jordan Taylor Moore in November 2011 and has been a factor in numerous accidents over recent years.
Marcus who has been concerned over the safety of the junction for some time said, “I am really keen to see something done to resolve the danger at this junction before we see any more sad fatalities. The Minister was sympathetic to my concerns and has assured me that he is going to look very carefully to see what can be done to make the Woodford Lane junction safer.”
After listening to the case put by the Nuneaton MP, the Transport Minister, Stephen Hammond, who knows the Hartshill area well said: “It is tragic to see any loss of life on our roads, and I am glad that Marcus has brought this difficult junction at Woodford Lane to my attention. It’s obvious that there are significant safety issues at that junction and I will now look to see if there is a solution that may be possible to resolve this issue."
