Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has today called for a proper and thorough consultation of local residents who could be affected by the proposal to open the Bermuda Bridge, which crosses the A444, to road traffic.
The feasibility study for project funding has been given the green light and has received cross-party support from County Councillors.
The local MP has raised concern that local people who would be directly affected should be given a proper consultation and real voice in any consultation. Marcus believes that any changes which impact on people’s lives in this way cannot possibly take place without those people.
Commenting, Marcus said: “I can understand why County Councillors may want to explore this plan, however they must take account that there is currently no throughway from Bermuda Road, Bermuda Village and the adjoining Lodge estate. The proposals will also impact on residents living on Heritage Park.
“It’s vital that detailed information is provided to residents and that a thorough consultation takes place over what is a fundamental decision.
“People must be given the confidence in a consultation process where they are given a real voice and opinion over their area.”
