On the day that another set of encouraging unemployment figures have been released, leading local MP Marcus Jones has today thanked local businesses for the part they are playing in fighting the scourge of unemployment in Nuneaton.
Nuneaton’s voice in Parliament has welcomed the figures which show that unemployment is now 44% lower than when the Conservative led Coalition Government came to power. The latest figures also show that unemployment amongst young people is 43% lower than 12 months ago and long term unemployment has reduced by 25% over that period.
Despite the fact that there are now over 1100 less people unemployed that there were in May 2010, Marcus is not complacent and like his Party he wants to see the aim of full employment reached in Nuneaton.
Marcus knows there is a lot more to do to get the talent of the 1400 people still unemployed into work, but he has been recently encouraged by the success of the Governments Work Programme which is getting long term unemployed into work. He has also recently welcomed the new bus services that will ferry people from Nuneaton station to new jobs at Birch Coppice.
Commenting, the local MP said: “This is excellent news. The long-term economic plan of the Government has helped to deliver these excellent figures. I must also thank local businesses for the tremendous contribution that they have made to the reduction in unemployment.
“We still need to do more to get us to a position of full employment, which is starting to become a more and more realistic aspiration. We also need to do more to help people with disabilities, but are able to work, into a position where they can get work.
“Every unemployed person who gets into work is getting the chance to take a wage home to improve their lives for them and their families.”
