Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has welcomed new figures showing that there are 22,000 fewer workless households in the West Midlands since 2010. That means fewer families without the security of work.

Overall across Britain the number of workless households is down 671,000 since the last election, with the proportion of workless households now at its lowest level since records began in 1996. The fall over the last year was 271,000, a record drop.

Commenting, Marcus said: “It’s excellent to see the number of workless households falling – with 22,000 fewer across our region and fewer right here in Nuneaton. This means more local families with the self-respect and security that comes with a job and a regular pay packet.

“This is further evidence that the Conservatives’ reforms to welfare and support for business to create more jobs, as part of our long-term economic plan, is working.

“There’s further to go – but the worst thing we could do now is abandon the plan that is working - delivering a brighter, more secure future for local families.”
