‘If not now, when?’ is the simple but vital call that Nuneaton’s MP Marcus Jones has put to the controlling Labour Councillors at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council about the Borough Plan.
This is a critical issue to many people and the town’s MP has been knocking on doors across Nuneaton where the issue of the Borough Plan is cropping up time-after-time.
Commenting, Marcus said: “I can only conclude that if those who control our council don’t know the anger that’s out there, they are either not listening or not interested in the people that they should be representing.
“I speak to people in Whitestone and they ask me about the Borough Plan and when they will know if they have to suffer a link road, or not.
“I speak to people in Galley Common who are concerned that developers will come back for another bite at the cherry, after the recent planning refusal.
“I speak to the people in Arbury and Bermuda who face uncertainty about whether they are going to face thousands of extra cars and lorries a day coming past their front windows.
“I speak to the people of St Nicolas who are seeing housing under construction, but fear that the roads, schools and GPs won’t be able to cope.
“I speak to the people of Weddington who are concerned about flooding and access to schools and GPs after new housing.
“I speak to the people of Attleborough who are concerned about the green belt and if Gipsy Lane can cope.
“Enough is enough, we do need new homes, but it’s got to be measured and proportionate. Those running our Council can’t keep ignoring these views. They must act and act now to spell out what they are planning and how they are going to deal with the infrastructure.”
This scathing attack comes after the latest meeting to discuss the Borough Plan was pulled by Council chiefs. The leading local MP now believes that, despite warm words and assurances, no progress will be made until after next May as Labour politicians refuse to be upfront with the public before the looming General Election.
