A Government Minister spent time recently visiting a Nuneaton-based charity following an invitation from the town’s MP, Marcus Jones.
Anna Soubry, the Veterans Minister based in the Defence Department, met with senior volunteers at the Veterans Contact Point and was joined by the MP for Rugby and Bulkington, Mark Pawsey, as well as Nuneaton’s MP, Marcus Jones.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Centre volunteers to explain the work of the Veterans Contact Point and enabled the charity’s committee to explain what help they need from Government to help even more local veterans.
Commenting on the visit, Marcus said: “I was very pleased to invite Anna to visit the Veterans Contact Point. The visit was an excellent opportunity to showcase the brilliant work the volunteers do to support local veterans here in Nuneaton and wider afield to a Government Minister. I know from speaking to the Minister after the visit how inspired she was by the work they do.
Adding, the MP for Rugby and Bulkington, Mark Pawsey, said: “I know from the very strong connections that exist between the village of Bulkington and our Armed Services just how valuable the Nuneaton Veterans Centre is to those who have served our country. It was a great pleasure to visit with The Minister responsible for veteran and Marcus to see for myself how this very important service is delivered.
The Minister, Anna Soubry, said: “When Marcus extended an invitation to me to visit Nuneaton I was pleased to accept. The Veterans Contact Point do tremendous work and their volunteers deserve a lot of credit for the way they go about their business. I thought it was a fantastic and special organisation, and I praise them for the work they do. I have already told my colleagues in Government about the good work being done in Nuneaton to help local veterans.”
