Nuneaton’s voice in Parliament, Marcus Jones, used the very last parliamentary question of the current Parliament to raise the harrowing story of Nuneaton’s Georgie Hall who tragically died of meningitis at only 23 months of age.
Marcus asked the question after he received representation from several local people about the campaign being led by Georgie’s parents, Matt and Paula Hall, to highlight the issue of meningitis and support for the adoption of the MenB vaccine.
After discussing the tragic situation with Mr Hall, the local MP agreed to raise the tragic case of Georgie in Parliament. He pressed the Life Sciences Minister to reach agreement with drugs company GlaxoSmithKline to start the mass immunisation programme to prevent families like the Hall’s experiencing further misery.
The Minister, George Freeman, gave Nuneaton’s representative in Parliament a positive response and said that he would use his offices to overcome the impasse between the drugs company and Government.
Commenting on this harrowing issue, the Nuneaton MP said: “I was shocked when I was first told about Georgie several weeks ago by a mutual friend. At the time I wanted to raise the matter, but thought that would be best done if and when they were the wishes of the family.
“I am just pleased to have been able to help Matt and Paula raise this important issue so that they are able to help others from their tragedy.”
