Nuneaton’s MP, Marcus Jones, has vowed to fight the decision to change the town’s local paper, the Nuneaton News, to a weekly publication.
The News’ parent company, Trinity Mirror, has announced that it will become a weekly newspaper rather than its current daily news, alongside plans to cut the number of reporters at the paper. The company is currently consulting with staff over the plans.
Marcus has written to the Chief Executive of the Trinity Mirror Group and has called for a meeting to take place to discuss the future of the Nuneaton News.
Commenting, Marcus said: “The Nuneaton News is a very well respected and highly regarded newspaper that puts the local community and our town at the heart of everything it does.
“Its journalists do a brilliant job highlighting a huge variety of local interest stories and holding local authorities – and the local MP and elected Councillors – to account, in a way that local newspapers absolutely should.
“I am hoping to meet with the Chief Executive of the Trinity Mirror Group to discuss these plans as I believe they will have negative consequences for our town.”
