Local MPs Dan Byles (North Warwickshire & Bedworth) and Marcus Jones (Nuneaton) have expressed their delight at the success of their Jobs Fair which they held in the Civic Hall on Thursday in Bedworth.
Despite torrential rain, enormous hail stones and flooding in the Civic Hall, over 1500 people turned out to meet with local employers and training providers - far exceeding the two MPs' expectations. Almost fifty businesses and organisations were represented, offering well over 220 job vacancies and more than fifty apprenticeship positions.
Speaking after the event, Bedworth MP Dan Byles said:
"Marcus and I wanted to put on this event in order to offer some practical help for local jobseekers, and we were blown away by how successful the day was. I thought that if five hundred people came it would be worth doing, but as it was three times that many turned up.
"Throughout the day I spoke with hundreds of jobseekers and employers, and I was struck by how positive everybody was about the event. It will be a while before we know how many people were successful in finding employment as a result of today's Job Fair, but I am confident that there will be quite a few local people back in work as a direct result of today. That is a fantastic, and something everyone involved can be proud of."
Marcus Jones MP for Nuneaton added,
“I am delighted at the results, we have never run an event of this type and we did not know how it would go, but the response was overwhelming. It was humbling to see and speak to so many people who were given real hope of employment as a result of the event. The companies involved were also really enthused about the quality, enthusiasm and attitude of so many of those who attended.
The weather was awful and we were shocked to see the Civic Hall start to flood, but the staff were excellent, and Dan and I would like to thank the team at the Civic Hall for their professionalism in keeping the show on the road”
