Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones today welcomed the announcement from Secretary of State for Transport (Justine Greening MP) that the Government is going to invest in the electrification of the Nuneaton to Coventry rail route.
This announcement comes on top of the KNUCKLE upgrade project which will see new stations at Bermuda and the Ricoh Arena, together with a twice hourly service between Nuneaton and Coventry.
The decision to further improve the line between Nuneaton and Coventry is part of the largest rail infrastructure investment since the Victorian age, with £9.4 Billion of rail investment now planned by the end of the decade.
The investment will also see more capacity made available on the West Coast Mainline and 850 miles of track across the country electrified.
This huge investment will also help to reduce the running cost of our railways.
A delighted Marcus Jones said: “Again this demonstrates the commitment of this Conservative led Government to improving the infrastructure in our area. On the railways we are going to see vast improvements in the service between Nuneaton and Coventry, and on the roads we are going to see the A5 between the Redgate and Dodwells Bridge upgraded, Tollbar Island upgraded and the treacherous M1/A14 junction improved.
"Bringing jobs and growth to Nuneaton is vital, and improving the infrastructure and connectivity for our area is one of the key drivers to bringing that growth."
