Nuneaton’s MP Marcus Jones has today reinforced his concerns about the recent problems with London Midland rail services.
Marcus has written to London Midland Trains in the last fortnight to raise concerns about the train service between Coventry and Nuneaton, and the reduced hours at the Nuneaton station Ticket Office, following complaints from local people.
He now sees Tuesday’s decision to cancel up to 14 services from Nuneaton as ‘completely unacceptable’ and has asked to meet the Rail Minister to raise his concerns.
Staffing levels have also been raised as a cause of some concern, with regular reports of not enough staff being available at peak times to help customers.
Commenting on the situation, Marcus said: “I have received a number of complaints from constituents who are extremely unhappy that the Nuneaton-Coventry service lately has effectively become a bus service between the two stations rather than a train service.
“The problems on the service will, I believe, lead to a situation where people have no confidence in the service and will therefore look to other ways of travel. The current situation is also very much undermining public confidence in relation to the infrastructure investment that both national and local government is looking to make to improve this service.
“Today I see that 14 trains have been cancelled as London Midland do not have enough train crews. That is completely unacceptable. I am now seeking an urgent meeting with the Rail Minister to see what can be done.”
