Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has praised the work of the local Coventry and Warwickshire Dementia Portal during this week’s session of Prime Minister’s Questions.
The issue received a glowing tribute from the Prime Minister, David Cameron, who acknowledged that the country needs to do more to tackle dementia.
Marcus had asked the PM to join him in commending the County Council and local healthcare partners for developing the ‘excellent’ Coventry and Warwickshire Dementia Portal, which provides services to both dementia patients and their carers.
During the Prime Minister’s response, he outlined three important aspects to tackling dementia in the country. The first must be to recognise that dementia is a disease and not just a natural part of ageing. The PM also stated that the care dementia patients receive in hospitals and in care homes needs to improve.
Commenting on the service, Marcus said: “The dementia portal is a fantastic initiative and I was delighted that the Prime Minister paid such a good tribute to the work of Warwickshire County Council in relation to the way it has brought partners together to help provide a better service to local dementia sufferers.
“He is absolutely right that we need to do more to help dementia patients and I will continue to do what I can to ensure that improvements take place here in Warwickshire and throughout the country.”
