Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has received a response from the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Stephen Hammond, following his letter in which he raised his concerns about the safety of the A5/The Long Shoot junction after receiving a number of complaints from local people.
In his correspondence, Marcus outlined his “great concern” over the recently re-modelled junction and explained that whilst he had already written to the Highways Agency, he was requesting that urgent consideration be given to shortening the monitoring period for reviewing the safety of the junction.
In response, Mr Hammond has assured the town’s MP that a Highways Agency engineer will be despatched to the site to investigate the changes further in effort to establish whether the re-modelling has had a detrimental impact on the junction’s safety.
Commenting, Marcus said: “I’m pleased that both the Highways Agency and Stephen Hammond are taking these concerns seriously and I am waiting for a further report following the engineer’s investigation.
“A number of people have already contacted me about this junction and I will continue to monitor this issue very closely. I would urge local people to contact me with their experiences of the re-modelled junction, as these will be fed back to the Highways Agency.”
