Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has written to the cross-party Warwickshire County Council Regulatory Committee urging them to reject a planning application for an 80 space car park in St Georges Way Bermuda.
Marcus welcomes the principle of parking provision for the new station, but he has called for a rethink over the proposal which will jeopardise important employment land on which UPS are proposing to create 150 new jobs.
The local MP thinks that the 80 space car park could become a 'white elephant' based on current and projected demand for the station.
Commenting, Marcus said: "This is a cross-party committee and I call on the members to reject this proposal, which is disproportionate to the demand for car parking at the station and will threaten 150 new jobs.
"Whilst I understand the committee's motivation for rail car parking is laudable, the fact remains that in Nuneaton we have a massive shortfall in employment land. The first priority should be looking to encourage new industrial development and not prevent it. I very much hope that these points are fully considered and that there will be a change of heart."
