Statement from Marcus Jones MP and Craig Tracey MP
“The illegal Gipsy and Traveller encampments that residents of Nuneaton and Bedworth had to endure over the summer were not acceptable and it is incumbent on all local public servants to work together, we cannot and must not let down local people on this issue important.
Despite what has been claimed to the contrary, as the local MPs we are enthusiastic and more than willing to meet with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC) Councillors at a mutually convenient time to discuss this critical issue. In fact, we have recently agreed a meeting with NBBC councillors on another unrelated issue, so organising a meeting on this should not be rocket science.
We now think it’s time for action for the sake of local people, it’s the responsibility of all politicians elected by local people to get round the table and discuss solutions. This is not the time for playing politics and silly games.
We have put an achievable date to NBBC in writing, but if that’s not acceptable, we urge the Council work with us, put the diaries together to agree a date that works for all parties. The public should deserve no less from their representatives.
