Local MP Marcus Jones has welcomed figures from Ofsted that show continued improvement in the provision of education in Nuneaton.

The figures show that in 2009, 14% of secondary schools in the town were rated as ‘inadequate’. In 2012, no secondary schools in Nuneaton are rated inadequate.  In 2009, just 14% of secondary schools were rated as ‘good’, a figure that increased to 50% by 2012. There was also a 5% increase in the number of schools rated ‘outstanding’ from 2011 to 2012.  

75% of Nuneaton’s schools are rated as either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ according to the figures, with 25% rated ‘satisfactory’, a reduction from 43% in 2009.

In primary education, the figures tell a similar story. 15% of primary schools in the town are rated as ‘outstanding’, an 11% increase from just 4% in 2009. 67% of primary schools in Nuneaton are rated as either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’, an increase of 15% from the 2009 figures.

Commenting on the figures, Marcus said: “The figures for Nuneaton are encouraging and show consistent improvements in the provision of education locally. Whilst there is absolutely no room for complacency it is pleasing to see improvements reflected in the Ofsted analysis.

“I pay tribute to our Head Teachers, governors, staff and above all the pupils for all they do to ensure that education provision continues to improve here in Nuneaton.”
