Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has slammed the Borough Plan proposals put forward by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s controlling Labour Group and described the consultation as a ‘sham’.
The local MP has branded it ‘unacceptable and disproportionate’ that the local Council should embark on consulting on only one option to build 85% of the 5,300 new houses proposed in only four areas of Nuneaton with only 15% of new development proposed in Bedworth.
Nuneaton’s voice in Parliament believes that Nuneaton Labour Councillors have been strong armed into these proposals by Labour cabinet which has been dominated by Councillors who represent or reside in Bedworth.
The MP, who has been asking the Council to produce a draft plan for the last three years, said: “For three years we have been waiting for the draft options for consultation. Here we are now three years on and we are now presented with only one option, cynically kept secret and presented less than a fortnight after local elections.
"The proposals are disproportionate and unfair on Nuneaton and the people of Nuneaton deserve better and at the very least should be given a number of options for consultation.”
