Marcus Jones MP has welcomed the news that, after years of campaigning, Highways England have agreed to start work in the spring to upgrade the 22km stretch of M6 between junctions 2 (Coventry) and 4 (Coleshill).
This part of the M6 has an average daily flow of 120,000 vehicles and currently suffers from serious congestion during peak times – congestion that is exacerbated by accidents, breakdowns or other incidents.
Marcus hopes that, once upgraded to a smart motorway, residents in Arley, Hartshill and Nuneaton will see less traffic trying to avoid motorway hold-ups and causing gridlock in and around the town.
“I am delighted that my campaign to upgrade the M6 has succeeded and that these works will start soon. I remain impatient to see the improvements to the lives of many constituents who suffer from ‘rat-running’ traffic whenever there is a problem on the M6. It is good to see that the Conservative Government continues to invest in our transport infrastructure and road network.”
