Nuneaton MP, Marcus Jones today questioned where the £200,000 promised for Nuneaton and Bedworth town centres has been spent. The commitment was made to spend the cash by the Labour-controlled Nuneaton and Bedworth Council nearly two years ago, and to date the local MP cannot visibly see where the significant sum of tax payer’s money has been spent.
“I’m concerned that if Labour remain in power at Nuneaton Town Hall, important regeneration Nuneaton needs will not take place. Where on earth has the £200,000 for Nuneaton and Bedworth town centres, promised by the Labour council leader been spent?”
“Over £200,000 has been spent on a climbing wall that’s hardly been used and a £1.6 million overspend on the new council depot. I fear that hard earned council tax payers money may have been frittered away without an outcome. What difference has the £200,000 really made if it has been spent? Even the basics like street cleaning and litter collection are not being paid enough attention. Frankly projects that the town desperately needs could be put in jeopardy through poor political judgement and management.”
“Nuneaton town centre should be the “jewel in the crown”, we have a lot to be positive about, but we desperately need a vision to take the town forward. There is lots of potential, we have a number of town centre sites where new housing, shops and places to spend leisure time could be used to create something really special, something that we could have massive civic pride in. Just over the A5 in Hinckley the Conservatives there have shown what can be done to bring back civic pride with good policies and implementation.
“Regrettably, the current incumbents at the town hall are seemingly incapable of spending our money and resources wisely and creating a vision that can be turned into a reality. I will continue to raise these important matters at every opportunity.”
