Marcus Jones, MP for Nuneaton, has joined with his colleagues Craig Tracey MP (North Warwickshire), Mark Pawsey MP (Rugby), Chris Pincher MP (Tamworth) and David Tredinnick MP (Hinckley & Bosworth) to call for the A5 between the M42 and M1 to be transformed into dual carriageway. This would bypass the Long Shoot junction and solve the challenges at Woodford Lane junction.
In a letter to Chris Grayling, the Secretary of State for Transport, the MPs urged that this scheme be included in the future roads investment programme.
And, to further highlight the need for this vital upgrade, they have secured a debate in Parliament on Wednesday, 7th February.
“The need for the A5 to be a dual carriageway is obvious to those of us who use it or suffer the knock-on effects of congestion from a road that is no longer able to cope with the number of vehicles using it” said Marcus Jones.
“The additional traffic that the Borough Council’s ill-thought development proposals generate simply add to the pressure on local infrastructure and increase traffic delays throughout Nuneaton. Boosting capacity on the A5 should help relieve some of those pressures too.”
