The Town’s Conservative MP, Marcus Jones, has pledged to continue the campaign for fair fuel prices by urging the Office of Fair Trading to hold a full inquiry into the cost of fuel in the UK.
On the morning of 15 July, Marcus joined with a number of his parliamentary colleagues to hand a FairFuelUK petition, containing more than 30,000 signatures, to the Office of Fair Trading calling a full and transparent inquiry into oil pricing. The EU and US authorities have already instigated their own investigations into the price of oil.
Commenting on the issue, Marcus said: “The cost of fuel is a significant concern for millions of motorists and businesses throughout the country. The FairFuelUK campaign is one I am pleased to support and I continue to urge the Office of Fair Trading to hold a full inquiry into the cost of fuel here in the UK. I know from speaking to many local people that the cost of fuel is a real concern in Nuneaton and is having a huge impact on family budgets. I am pleased that the Chancellor has frozen fuel duty again but the OFT now needs to conduct an investigation.”
